Learning Goals
To provide students with an overview of current issues in Social and Cultural Geography (SCG). Contexts are presented in which certain issues and approaches take shape (explored in the syllabus in 1. Themes).
The aim is to develop the following skills: 1. master and operationalize concepts 2. reflect on the relationships between different cultures and societies 3. encouraging research work in the field of CSM. 4. collecting and processing data, particularly qualitative data (linked to point 2. Contexts of the syllabus).

Contents
1.Themes: Social and cultural geographical processes ; cultural systems ; cultural nationalism; culture and identity; gender inequities in geographic perspective; globalization and social and cultural changes
2. Contexts: some examples about place - the distinctions of public and private and rural and urban places. Our understandings of places can play a central role in processes of social and cultural exclusion.

Assessment
Continuous assessment regime:
a) Fundamental group work (3500 words, excluding cartographic elements and annexes) and an oral presentation (40+10%)
b) Participation in an event/conference of geographical interest and an individual report (5%)
c) Two individual exercises (1000 words) commenting on texts or other equivalents (films, for example) carried out following lessons (20%)
d) Attendance/participation (5%)
e) Individual exam (20%).
