Contents
1. Mikhaïl Bakhtines Theory
- His fundamental concepts (Dialogism; plurilinguism; chronotope etc.);
- The forms of the popular culture (the carnival; the grotesque; the laughter etc.);
- His conception of romance and of menipean satire;
2. Irony in Literature and Arts
- Rewriting, dialogism, parody and irony;
- The ironic (re)writing;
- The ironic and parodic (re)reading of the intertext(s);
- Ironic interpretation in Arts.

- Seminar sessions (Theoretical and practical);
- Reading and interpretation of articles on art critic;
- Text analysis and artistic objects;
- Oral presentations.
Evaluation Methods (Evaluation)
According to the Regulamento Interno da Universidade de Évora and the Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos Critérios definidos pelo Departamento de Linguística e Literaturas. Students may choose between two modes of assessment continuous or exam:
(1) Continuous assessment: a) Written work (40%) and defense (30%); c) Analysis, presentation and discussion of texts: 30%.
(2) Exam: a) Written exam (100%).
