Learning Goals

- To Know the vegetative and reproductive characteristics of temperate zone fruit trees, and understand the ecology factors that limit the adaptation of these species.
- Discussion about the importance of pruning and training techniques in fruit tree balance of different species and different cropping situations.
- Learning the essential principles of vegetative plant propagation. Observation and discussion about the different techniques used in fruit species.

Contents

1 – Introdution to the morphology, anatomy and reproductive cycle of temperate zone fruit crops. Perennial characteristics.
2- Ecology of temperate zone fruit species.
3 – Floral biology and fruit set
4- Soil and microclimatic factors for fruit crop use.
5- Importance of plant pruning in fruit balance. Principles and practices.
6- Vegetative plant propagation. Principles of ryzogenesis. The tecnhiques used in fruit crops, viticulture and olive trees

Teaching Methods

The approach to the contents of the UC is done through a theoretical explanation on each topic, followed by a theoretical-practical approach in the field, through visits to experimental fields. The assessment includes 2 written tests and the final grade will be an average of the grade of each test or a final exam.
The assessment includes a minimum attendance of 75% in classes.
