Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

The overall objective of this CU is to provide the students with the knowledge on laboratory techniques and methods which allows them to perform adequately in Chemistry labs. It is also intended to get students acquainted with and have them apply routinely a set of rules aimed at attaining safety in work and also to adopt an attitude in line with sustainable development. By the end of this CU, students should have developed a set of competences that enable them to:understand and evaluate the importance of good laboratory practices; acquire an adequate behavior leading to the implementation of GLP; recognizing the importance of laboratory techniques and methods in the current chemistry panorama and society; collect and interpret in a critical way the scientific information; present, either orally or in writing, the scientific work relating to the subjects of the syllabus; work either individually or in group; understand and evaluate the importance of digital transformation.

Teaching Methods

Lessons are essentially of practical nature. At the beginning of each syllabus topic, the concepts will be presented using an interactive methodology. Subsequently, a lab work will be conducted.
In all the phases, the students should actively participate, namely in the preparation and execution of the experimental work and the writing of a lab report or scientific posters.
Teaching / learning methods are based in the experience obtained during the classes and from self-promoted research as well as on the internet and on the open educational resources available on platform moodle.
The final grade, FG; will include two evaluation components: Laboratory assessment (L), based on the prior preparation of the experimental work, laboratory performance, the elaboration of lab reports, the presentation of a scientific posters and a monograph, and written assessment (W). The written evaluation may be carried out in continuous assessment (two tests) or final exam.
FG = 0.5 L (>10) + 0.5 W(> 9.5)
