The subject of Analysis and Text Production aims to develop the communicative competence of the students, both in the reading and written competences.

Learning Goals

The subject Analysis and Text Production aims to develop communicative competence of students in the double strand of reading and writing. This unit has thus two kinds of motivation:
- On the one hand, it is intended here to provide the ideal opportunity for guided practice of reading and analyzing all types of discourse, including literary. Accordingly, and in an attempt to meetstudents' interests, will make use of some fundamental works of Portuguese literature, or Portuguese language literatures. Moreover, concomitantly, the program includes the acquisition of basic notions of literary and linguistic studies, to promote and actively implement by students in activities of text analysis.
- On the other hand, and still relying on the notions alluded to above, as well as other more practical, this course will focus on the production activity, by students, written statements of various kinds.

Contents

1. The reading and textual analysis:
1. 1. Elements of the text
1.1.1 Cohesion of the text: the words in the text and processes
cohesion (agreement, word order, cohesion, temporal parallelism,lexical cohesion, referential cohesion);
1.1.2 Textual Coherence: coherent link of ideas and processes
logical link.
2. The textual production (taking into account levels of argument):
2.1 Elements of the text: coherence and cohesion, the phrase -length, order, qualities; paragraph; the period, the score.
2.2 Techniques for the production of text: inventio (finding ideas), the dispositio (plan) - a base structure, the elocutio (write) -correction, readability and communicative efficacy.
2.3 Types of text: expository-argumentative and expository
2.3.1 Speeches that are based on a paraphrase, summary, report,record, etc..
2.3.2 Types of argumentative texts: review, critical essay,recension, etc..

Teaching Methods

Collective teaching sessions: input and discussion with active participation of students in different topics of the program, presentation of small oral presentations, individual or group,throughout the semester and a written individual or group.
Tutorials: orientation of work in progress, answering questions,correcting papers or exercises
Continuous Assessment: production of different types of texts written tests + frequency.
