Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

Objectives:
To provide students strictly the foundations of methods of probability theory and statistical inference in the integrated program of Secondary education with a focus on applications and use of statistical software.

Competences:
To apply and develop the fundamental concepts of Probability and Statistics that allow to represent and analyze statistics data

Contents

. Sample measures of central location and sample measures of dispersion (mean, media, fashion, variance, standard deviation, range, etc.).
. Graphical methods (bar chart, histogram, box plot, stem and leaves, ect).
. Probability Theory. Basic Laws of Probability. Law of large numbers.
. Stochastic statistical literacy.
. Correlation coefficient. Simple Regression Analysis.
. Simulation Study.
. Use of statistical software, including SPSS.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methodologies:
Lectures and practical classes taught predominantly in the black board, supporting e-learning tools and use of slides. Motivating the continued work of the student e the presence in the classroom.
Introduction to theoretical concepts using examples of direct application in Economics to show the relevance of the syllabus. Application exercises, focusing on solving real and current problems, with the aim to develop the interest and the motivation in the discipline.
Focus on interpretation and analysis of data using where possible the outputs of the statistical software.

Evaluation:
Privilege by the continuous evaluation with the realization of three frequencies and further complementary works of evaluation. If the student do not obtain approval in continuous evaluation, the student performs an examination which will cover all the subjects taught.
