Practical Philosophy

Doctoral Degree

Ano Letivo 2025/2026

Course Overview

The PHD in Practical Philosophy opens up an area of research that addresses the existential problems posed by contemporary society and coming from different areas of knowledge providing a dialogue that articulates philosophical thought
with diverse theoretical configurations and practical life.
The doctoral programme allows for both the framing of existential problems within the philosophical tradition and the acquisition of methodologies that value rigorous questioning and broad understanding, in order to contribute to critical and constructive reflection on the personal implications and collective consequences of technological advances, cultural and political choices, and the application of knowledge in the public and institutional sphere.

The PhD in Practical Philosophy has a semester-long disciplinary component that supports students in thematic research and guides them in preparing and carrying out their individual research projects. In addition, students are integrated into research centres that enable them to participate in academic activities at national and international level, thus broadening their research horizons and collaborating in specialised areas of knowledge.
