Learning Goals

To provide synergies among students who come from different academic backgrounds. Allow the student a comprehensive scientific culture through interaction with research areas of CEHFCi networking with other research units.
Provide tools, concepts and methodologies in the field of History and Philosophy of Science. Provide prospects compared the practice of science, in practice contexts of science in Europe and the world.
To provide tools of work: bibliography and bibliographic sources for conducting research on the history of science.
Provide analytical tools for critical and reflective use of science in the open society of the twentieth century - XXI.

Contents

1. Historical perspective of interaction socio-economic-cultural scientific activity - the emergence of big-science).
2. Building models of science in European colonial world, the history of science in America countries (North and South).
3.. Historical perspective of the construction of Scientific Theories; actor's scientists, scientific institutions: Academies, Universities, and Laboratories: Scientific work in network. Signs of the professionalization of science (XIX-XX) (technique/ technology)
4. The History of Science at the turn of the century XIX-XX
5. The History of Science in the twentieth century, historiographical perspectives
6th. The new historiographical trends of late twentieth century: network science; transmission of science, knowledge exchange, research practice; cultural practices.
7. Science as a culture: end of the two cultures
8. The scientific controversy. Examples of some scientific controversies in the public space: ways of practicing science.

Teaching Methods

Typology lecture classes (abstract, bibliography; debate classes of texts, organized interventions with students. (Framework Cehfci / HetSci).
Invitation to lectures to various researchers under the program.

Presentation of various moments of working in progress, accompanied by critical comments by teachers and researchers involved.

Organization of roundtable end with the intervention of teachers and students: an interdisciplinary reflection on Themes of History of Science Theme: stays and innovations, scientific controversies and scientific discovery.

Evaluation:
Preparation and presentation and discussion of an issue paper, from a subject, source, debate, controversy, state of art related to the thesis project, demonstrating the added value of the readings and discussions in a public the workshop.
Paper: supervised, working in progress are presented in public session. Final assessment: after delivery of the paper after peer review.
