Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

It is intended that students become familiar with the main methods used in geophysical prospecting and remote sensing, applied in places contaminated by metals, namely in abandoned mines, to assess the environmental impact by determining contamination levels. At the end of the Curricular Unit, students must identify the main in situ geophysical and remote sensing methods, suitable for the study of environmental contamination and know their theoretical foundations and the basis of their application, from the acquisition and processing of data and interpretation of results.

Contents

1. Introduction to geophysical and remote sensing methods.
2. Geophysical methods: electrical, magnetic, electromagnetic (GPR and Induction), seismic and diagraphs.
3. Geospatial methods: differential GNSS and drone photogrammetry.
4. Remote sensing methods: spectro-radiometer, multi-spectral drone, multi- and hyperspectral satellite data.
5. Visualization and interpretation of geophysical and remote sensing data.

Teaching Methods

Expository theoretical classes on the fundamentals of geophysical and remote sensing methods, acquisition techniques and ways of interpreting results. The syllabus will be taught using slide projection with theoretical content and its applications, which will be made available in the course Moodle, where complementary content to the study will also be available, such as scientific articles with applications of the taught methods.

Assessment

Final test on the content covered in classes.
