Objectives
• To contribute to the development of technical and scientific skills regarding the Differential Diagnosis and treatment of Leg Ulcers, taking into account the scientific evidence.
• To train Nurses and Doctors to evaluate the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI).
• To train application techniques of the different types of compression bandages: short traction, long traction and multilayer systems.
Skills
• Shows clinical reasoning skills for differential diagnosis and decision making in the approach to the Person with Leg Ulcer
• Reveals skills of prevention and diagnostic assessment of lower limb ulcers, supported by the latest scientific evidence
• Shows skills in resource management and interventions that promote the healing of leg ulcers

Contents

• Scientific evidence in the differential diagnosis and treatment of Leg Ulcers
• Leg ulcer epidemiology and impact on health care and quality of life for people with complex wounds
• Etiopathogenesis of leg ulcer; physiology of the venous and arterial system of the lower limb.
• Differential diagnosis of leg ulcers
• Evaluation techniques with “Doppler” and calculation of the Arm Ankle Pressure Index
• Techniques for using the different types of compression bandages: short traction, long traction and multi-layer systems

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology aims to stimulate the personal and professional development of students, based on work that stimulates clinical reasoning and the training of skills and practical skills, through workshops and discussion of clinical cases.
The course evaluation method is continuous evaluation, with participants participating in sessions and carrying out the proposed activities. Being a b-learning course, there will be face-to-face (7 hours) and online (8 hours) sessions. In order to complete the course, it is mandatory to attend at least 75% of the contact hours and carry out practical activities.

Assessment

In order to complete the course, it is mandatory to attend at least 75% of the contact hours and carry out practical activities.
Continuous assessment will consist of an individual written test (100%)
The student cannot have an evaluation lower than 10 on a scale of 0 to 20.
