Presentation

It will address one of the most important areas in terms of the individualized therapeutics, the pharmacogenomics in the clinical practice.

Sustainable Development Goals

- To address the biochemical and clinical bases aimed at the application of pharmacogenomics in practice.
- To characterize of the national and international overview of the application of pharmacogenomics in a clinical context.
- To know consortia, databases and ethical aspects.
- To develop a roundtable to discuss the topics covered with clinical experts.

Contents

i) Brief introduction to pharmacogenomics.
ii) National/international consortia and population approach.
iii) Ethical aspects in the implementation of pharmacogenomics.
iv) Database with a view to classifying the evidence relating to pharmacogenomic biomarkers contained in the Summaries of Product Characteristics with marketing authorization in Portugal and their use in the context of the
effectiveness/safety of medicines (practical example of antidepressants).
v) Application of pharmacogenomics: allergies.
vi) Application of pharmacogenomics: oncology.
vii) Implementation of pharmacogenomic tests in the clinical analysis laboratory.

Teaching Methods

Classes take place in the form of seminars, in face-to-face sessions (11h). They will be essentially expository and constructivist, since the trainees will be an active part of the learning and dynamics of the sessions.
The classes also have the participation of invited external specialists.
