Objectives:
Apply the concepts of museum and museology; classify museums according to their vocation, protection and institutional nature of the
collections; analyze the functions and spaces due to a museum; elaborate form of museums observation; recognize the most
characteristics of collecting and museology in Portugal throughout the xx century to the present, listing the different ways of acquiring
objects for the museum; promote interest in museum institutions and reflection on them;
Skills:
Identify the various stages of treatment in the incorporation of museological objects; evaluate the environmental conditions of a
museum; identify the technical tools for evaluating and controlling environmental conditions and security; distinguish the different types
of exposure in a museum, indicating their characteristics; evaluate the minimum required to open a museum, according to the quality of
its collections and the human and financial resources.

Teaching Methods
Theoretical-practical classes with oral presentation of contents supported by teaching materials: videos, images, websites, museum
inventories, exhibition catalogs and other digital instruments. Supervised visits to museum units or invitation of Museum directors and
real visit or by video conference. All scientific materials for students to work on weekly - texts, video links, summaries, program and
bibliography - are available on the platform www.moodle.uevora.pt, constituting a channel for monitoring the theoretical-practical
classes.

Assessment
Evaluation. Continuous assessment regime: 1 individual written essay / or 1 frequency (40%); work produced throughout the
semester, with monitoring by the teaching team on a Museum issuel unit/theme of the Museums context, presentation, oral defense
and delivery of material support (50%); attendance with participation during the weekly sessions, according to requests of the teaching
team (10%). Assessment by Final Exam: 1 written exam (100%)
