Teaching Methods

This curricular unit intends to:
• Engage students in hands-on experiences in orienteering, climbing, and rappelling to foster active learning and problem-solving, favoring experiential learning
• Cultivate communication, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making skills essential for both adventure activities and broader career paths, promoting interdisciplinary skill development
• Use digital learning tools for interactive simulations, online map analysis, and e-portfolios, promoting engagement, accessibility, and flexibility
• Implement self-regulatory assessment through self-assessment, peer feedback, and regular feedback loops, enabling students to monitor their progress and adapt their learning strategies
• Integrate service-learning components for community engagement, enabling students to apply their adventure skills for the benefit of the community, fostering a sense of responsibility and community relationship.

Assessment

To pass continuous assessment, the student must obtain a final grade equal to or greater than 9.5 in the weighted sum of the proposed assessment tasks. Continuous assessment comprises a practical evaluation of mapping design, route planning and safety procedures for climbing and rappelling (learning outcomes 1, and 3 - 30% quote). The second practical assessment relies on student capacity for execute and monitoring the adventure activity (learning outcomes 2 and 5 - 30% quote). Alongside these practical assessments, for continuous assessment students must develop a group written report that encompasses the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of the event (learning outcomes 4, 5 and 6 - 40% quote). Assessment by exam and appeal exclusively include the report delivery, as it will not be possible to repeat the activity. Assessment practical components must be completed in continuous assessment.
