Presentation
This UC aims to provide students with knowledge in the field of Public Health, namely its evolution, the main models of Health Systems, the Promotion and Education for Health strategies and the impact of measures and policy options in the area of health and medicines.

- To know the concepts and evolution of Public Health
- To characterize the models of Health Systems, namely the Portuguese;
- To know the Health Promotion and Health Education strategies and actively participate in the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the rational use of medicines;
- To understand the dynamics and distribution of Health in the community and its determinants;
- To build and interpret demographic and health indicators of a community;
- To know the basis of epidemiological reasoning and its role in the assessment of disease risk, as well as the characteristics of the main models of epidemiological studies;
- To intervene in epidemiological studies concerning health problems of the community in which he works;
- To predict the potential impact of the health measures proposed and/or adopted by the political authorities, namely in the area of medicines and health products.

6. Biodemography: population growth and ageing, and its impact on Public Health
7. General notions of Epidemiology. Phases of the Epidemiological Reasoning: analysis, formulation of the etiological hypothesis and its proof. Risk and Prognosis Factors and their quantification. Characteristics of the main models of descriptive, causal and interventional epidemiological studies

Teaching Methods
Teaching/learning takes place through the integration of i) theoretical lectures using active methods of pedagogy; and ii) theoretical-practical classes to discuss presented papers. The use of e-learning resources allows the permanent actualization of content and the autonomous exploration of the latest scientific developments.
Assessment
The evaluation is carried out in accordance with the Evaluation Regulation in force in the Institution. In this UC, the final assessment of learning results from i) continuous assessment, work developed and presented (40%) + final theoretical exam (60%); or ii) final evaluation, final exam (100%).
