The degree in Geography promotes a comprehensive and solid training, from a technical and scientific point of view, which articulates the social sciences and earth sciences, society and the environment. Its interdisciplinary nature makes it possible to provide students with vast knowledge and skills, making them capable of handling analysis tools indispensable for the design of public policies with a territorial base, for the construction of a more enlightened citizenship and a more integrated vision of the Planet that, at various scales, allows understanding the interconnection of natural and human phenomena and processes.
It is based on active learning methodologies, developing critical thinking, problem solving and students' autonomous work capacity, both individually and in groups, with fieldwork experiences in different contexts being highly valued, as well as the use of Geographic Information Systems. Thus, this training has an eminently applied character.
The faculty seeks to encourage the involvement of students, especially in the last year of the course, in the various activities carried out in scientific research centers of nationally and internationally recognized quality. In doing so, job opportunities are opened, but conditions are also created for further specialization and for the continuation of studies at the postgraduate level. The close relationship that is established between teachers and students of the degree in Geography is one of the most distinctive and original features of this training.
